Introduction
As of March 1st, 2025, the Delhi NCR region has implemented revised traffic fines based on amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act. These penalties are designed to improve compliance and road safety across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and surrounding areas. Whether you're a daily commuter or an occasional driver, it is crucial to stay updated.
Major Traffic Violations & Updated Fines
- Drunk Driving: ₹10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 6 months for first offence
- Driving Without a License: ₹5,000
- Over-Speeding (Private Vehicle): ₹2,000
- Over-Speeding (Commercial Vehicle): ₹4,000
- Dangerous Driving (Rash Driving): ₹5,000
- Red Light Jumping: ₹1,000 – ₹5,000 depending on severity
Common Minor Offences & Penalties
- Not Wearing Seat Belt: ₹1,000
- Riding Without Helmet: ₹1,000 and licence suspension
- Using Mobile While Driving: ₹5,000
- Driving Without Insurance: ₹2,000
Repeat Offenders & Heavier Penalties
If caught for the same offence multiple times, especially drunk driving or rash driving, penalties may double, and courts can order imprisonment, community service, or suspension of your driving license.

To check and pay your traffic challans online, visit the Parivahan e-Challan website or use your state transport department portal. Make sure to have your vehicle number and challan details ready.
